Simple Systems to Start Creating Content
Feeling overwhelmed by the idea of creating content? You’re not alone. Many business professionals and entrepreneurs know they should be sharing their expertise but get stuck on where to start, how often to post, and if they’ll even have anything valuable to say.
We recently discussed these very challenges on our Future Proof You podcast, and we want to share some simple systems and frameworks to help you break through the content creation barrier.
Common Content Creation Concerns
One of the biggest misconceptions is the fear of over-posting and overwhelming your audience. The reality is, most social media algorithms don’t work like a constant IV drip of content. Your followers won’t necessarily see every single post the moment it goes live. In fact, even highly engaged followers might see your content days or even a week later. So, don’t let the fear of posting “too much” paralyze you from posting at all.
Another hurdle is the feeling that content creation has to be a monumental effort. Many believe it requires constant new ideas, perfect writing, and a significant time investment. This can lead to analysis paralysis, where the overwhelm prevents you from taking even small steps.
Simple Systems to Get Started
The key is to find a system that works for you and integrate content creation into your routine. Here are a few simple frameworks to consider:
• Post Regularly, Even If It’s Small: Consistency is more important than perfection. Start with a manageable frequency, even if it’s just one or two posts per week. This helps you build your personal brand and allows for feedback and social proof.
• Don’t Aim for Perfection, Aim for “Done”: It’s better to have “B-minus” content out there than no content at all. Don’t get bogged down in making every post perfect. Focus on providing value and sharing your insights.
• Repurpose and Recycle Content: You don’t need a brand new idea for every single post. Take a concept and present it in different formats (text, image, short video) across various platforms. You can even repost the same content with a different context to reach a new audience.
• Find Your Content Style: Are you a “yapper” (someone who likes to talk), a “streamer” (someone who prefers video), or a “typer” (someone who likes to write)? Focus on your preferred medium and build your system around it. For example, if you prefer to talk, record your thoughts and then transcribe them for written content.
• Turn on Your “Content Brain”: Look for content opportunities in your everyday work life. A client win, a lesson learned, or even a thought during your commute can be turned into a valuable post.
• Use Analytics to Guide You: Pay attention to which types of content resonate with your audience. Use this data to inform your future content strategy and focus on what works.
Integrating AI (Without Overcomplicating)
While we believe in the power of authentic content, AI can be a helpful tool to streamline certain aspects of your content process. For example, AI can assist with brainstorming ideas, transcribing audio, or repurposing existing content for different platforms. The goal is to use AI to make content creation simpler and more efficient, not to replace your unique voice and perspective.
