FutureProof Your Content: Mobile Video Guide
Feb 17, 2025
Are you looking to enhance your LinkedIn presence? You're not alone. With the rise of mobile technology, creating engaging videos has never been more accessible. You don't need fancy cameras, microphones, or lighting set ups. All you need is the phone in your pocket and a free app to get started! LinkedIn is definitely pushing videos (as of early 2025).
With TikTok’s long term future questionable, all other platforms are becoming more “TikTok-ified”. How do we know? Check out the dedicated video feed in LinkedIn added in the fall of 2024.
X added a video feed in January of 2025 as well. With every platform pushing vertical, short-form video: you are missing out if you aren’t posting your own content!
Let's address common questions and practical tips to get you started on your mobile video content creation. These are all specific to filming, editing, and posting on mobile. No need for fancy desktop computers or expensive software!
Best Mobile Video Editing App?
For mobile video editing, CapCut is the clear winner. It’s incredibly user-friendly, packed with features, and produces high-quality results. Whether you’re adding text, transitions, or filters, CapCut makes the process seamless, all on a mobile device. Instagram & TikTok both have solid native video editing features as well. TikTok is worth considering if you are going to do green screen type videos. We cannot recommend Adobe Express or Canva for mobile video editing: they are way behind in features and while they are both great for certain uses, mobile video editing is not currently amongst them.
*Meta’s “Edits” app is slated to release March 13, 2025. We will update recommendations here once we get our hands on it and evaluate it.
Best Mobile Captioning Tools?
Apps like captions.ai offer quick captioning, but CapCut’s built-in captioning tools are reliable, fast, and accurate. With one tap of the “auto caption” button, you will have a transcript and be able to customize colors, fonts, and effects. Instagram & TikTok have limited caption styles and fonts available in their native editing tools. While LinkedIn will auto add generated captions, but you want to put your own on the video.
Mobile Screen Recording?
For iPhone users, the built-in screen recording feature is usually sufficient. It’s easy to access and captures both video and audio. You can also screenshot an article, product, or backdrop, then create a green screen style video with your talking head shot over the top in CapCut or TikTok. In addition to a green screen static image, you can use a video as the background.
Improving Audio on Mobile Videos?
Use an external mic! I use Rode Wireless Pro with a lavalier mic, but even the cheap $10-20 wired lav mic’s will sound better than the internal mic on a phone if you aren’t holding it up to your mouth. You don’t need to be fancy here, but any external microphone will be better than your phone’s internal mic from more than about a foot away. CapCut also has a built-in feature to remove background noise, isolate voice, and other tools to improve your audio when editing. My recommendations for best mobile recording mics are:
🥇 Rode Wireless Pro Microphones (the best, but expensive & not the most portable/smallest)
🥈 DJI Mic Mini (really solid quality, small, cheaper than above but a noticeable step down in quality as well)
🥉USB C + Lightning Wireless Mics (mic’s like this are cheap, easy to use, and better than your phone’s built in for 95% of use cases)
Quick Tips for Mobile Video Success
- Keep it short, but not TikTok short: 30-60 seconds seems to be the sweet spot
- Get to the point: most viewers swipe away in the first 2 seconds
- View posts as experiments: you can review analytics and adapt based on performance
BUT👇
- Consistency > perfection. Until you have a meaningful sample size of experiments, you won’t be able to improve. A “perfect” video in your drafts does nothing for you!
