Dan: Hey everyone, welcome back to FutureProof You's Roast My LinkedIn Profile! We just wrapped up a live event where we, John, Aaron, and myself got to critique some real LinkedIn profiles. We brought the ‘roast,’ but really, it was all about bringing value for you guys out there, especially if you're hunting for a job or trying to step up your game on LinkedIn. We roasted, uh, I mean, critiqued a few different profiles, but what struck me was how much of the advice was the same, no matter where you are in your career.

John: Yeah, hello everyone! What I really took away was how crucial content and keywords are for your LinkedIn game. Like I said to Roastee #1, content is king on LinkedIn because the algorithm treats people who are active better than it treats people who are inactive. It's about your social footprint and your personal SEO.

I even told Roastee #2, Content comes first. I Google search for candidates all the time. I don't just search LinkedIn. I search Google. So, get active! Post articles, share your take on industry trends – anything to build up your visibility and show you're a subject matter expert. As for keywords? Don't just default to your job title in your headline. Make it more encompassing of you as a professional and highlight a uniqueness about you. And skills? You should have more than two top skills. I think you have up to five that you can choose. Maybe more under top skills there. Just add add a few more.Think blockchain, crypto, whatever’s hot in your field. Seriously, content is king.

Aaron: And from my side, I focused on making sure your profile is visually appealing and, honestly, human. As I said, too many hyphens are heavy and hard to digest. Break up those walls of text! Think short sentences, bullet points, sentence fragments in the about section are totally acceptable. Recruiters are skimming, they want to get through the content as fast as possible.

Please, get a banner photo! It’s looks like you put up a picture of yourself and then said, I'm halfway there. Forget it. Let's not use the other opportunity to show my personality. Don't be a blank banner profile! Finally, with all this AI stuff now, make sure you still shine through. Don’t let your profile sound like it was written with AI entirely. Inject your personality, your voice – make it clear it’s you and not some robot. Because at the end of the day, this reads with AI generated and not much human tweaking on the output. Let’s keep the human touch in LinkedIn!
